Althea Petal Velvet Powder Review

Quick blog update: In a few days (or weeks) I will be completely changing the look of this blog as this cutesy, pink theme is not really my style anymore. I've been quite MIA from blogging and filming but one of these days I will be back for sure! I am in the middle of creating new designs for my blog and creating a new intro for my Youtube videos as well. Just letting you know that if at some point you might see this blog and wonder why it's messed up, it's because it's under construction. Please look forward to the new look of this blog soon!

On to the review...

Disclaimer: This product was sent to me free of charge and for review purposes only. All thoughts and opinions on the product will remain honest and of my own.

A few days ago I have received a package from Althea Korea. It's their new product, the Petal Velvet Powder. I was asked to do a review on it so I thought this would be perfect as I was planning on getting back to blogging again.

As usual, all packages from Althea come in a bright pink plastic with the Althea logo and the box usually is a pale pink (almost lilac) color. The box design changes when there is a special holiday like Christmas or when it's their birthday. Unfortunately, I was unable to take a picture because I was so excited to take a picture of the inside that I forgot to take a picture of the outside! Nevertheless, their packages are always beautifully and carefully packaged and wrapped with bubble wrap. I haven't received a box from Althea that was damaged.

So this is what my package looks like when I opened it. It came with dried citrus and petals to give off a beautiful, relaxing scent, and a small plastic with an Instagram post printed on it for decoration. Sadly, these won't be included in your order as this came with the product for PR purposes only. Don't worry, we're not here for the extra stuff anyway!

The product comes in a cute, minimalist box that is the same color as their packages.

There are no ingredients listed on the box in English but I managed to grab the ingredients list on their website.
SILICA, MICA, VINYL DIMETHICONE/METHICONE SILSESQUIOXANE CROSSPOLYMER, DIMETHICONE/VINYL DIMETHICONE CROSSPOLYMER, METHICONE, HIBISCUS SYRIACUS SEED EXTRACT, HYDROGENATED LECITHIN, 1,2-HEXANEDIOL, GLYCERYL CAPRYLATE, MALTODEXTRIN, FRAGRANCE
 Paraben-free! Yay!

The product looks beautiful and simple with the Althea logo on the cap. It feels very lightweight and I feel like it would break or at least crack if you drop it. I suggest handling this with care!

NOTE: This is loose powder, not pressed powder.

It only comes with 3g worth of product. Quite a small amount if you ask me but I guess it's perfect if you wanna try it out first. Also, this is Althea's very first product of their own. Who knows, they might come out with a larger version of this soon!

Just a quick note: the jar is small and it fits my palm perfectly. Not a bad thing considering the fact that it only has 3g. I think it's very travel-friendly! The puff feels very soft and it doesn't feel cheap at all.

The product is sealed with this sticker so that's a big plus!

That's it for the packaging. Let's move on to the powder itself. Here is the product description from the website:
Althea's very own product range is here, and we're starting off strong with the Petal Velvet Powder! This debuting beauty is a translucent powder that sets makeup and leaves behind a silky finish to the touch. Infused with oil from Althea seeds, this powder works to keep sebum production at bay without drying out the skin for a radiant, fresh look, all while giving out a gentle scent. Keep your makeup looking great all day or dust some on to stay shine-free!
They also said that this product is for all skin types. I have combination skin. Very oily on the inner cheeks and T-zone area and normal-dry (depending on the weather) on the outer parts of my cheeks. I'm hoping that this product really does control the oiliness of my face even just for an hour!

The powder doesn't feel chalky or gritty at all. In fact, it feels very smooth on the skin. It also has a faint, floral-y and a bit of citrus-y scent to it. It's not overwhelming at all. I used this product for baking my face. Baking your face?! WTF?

I don't have pictures of the whole makeup process when I tried this out because I'm saving that for my video review! I'll be posting the video here once I've got my shit together filmed it. Here's a pic of my face right after I finished doing my makeup:

Sorry for the silly picture. It was taken on Snapchat. Follow me! @damnitskristine
And here is what it looks like after about 2 hours of the product on my face. I used it when I went to church and this was taken when I got home:

I've had the powder on my face for a solid 8 hours (I did some chores after taking selfies lol) and these are what I have observed:

  • It helped my undereye area remain crease-free throughout the day. Usually after a few hours of use, my undereye area will already have creases. With this powder, it did not happen at all.
  • My T-Zone area still became oily but I guess that's all boils down to genetics. It did delay the oiliness for a good hour or two.
  • The usually dry areas of my face remained smooth and it did not emphasize the dry patches of skin I have around my jawline.
  • It did not leave a whitish-cast on my face. This works as a translucent or setting powder so you have to blend this very well and not heavily pack it on your skin unless it's Halloween and your goal is to look like a ghost.
  • It was very easy to blend on the skin.
  • It doesn't cover blemishes or redness as this is meant to be a finishing/setting powder.
  • It doesn't feel heavy on the skin. It feels light, as if you aren't wearing any powder at all.
  • It's not sweat-proof or water-proof. They didn't claim that it was but I'm just letting you know that I don't recommend using this if you're going to be sweating around or swimming lol. It might help a little if you use a good setting spray.
By the way, this costs only P210! Quite a steal if you ask me. It's a small price to pay for a great product. I do recommend everyone to try this out especially if you're looking for something lightweight. Here are the product prices for different countries in case you are not from the Philippines (the links will take you to your country's Althea Petal Velvet Powder page):

That's it for my review! All in all I think that this is a good startup product from Althea. I have high hopes that they will release a lot of different products soon. I promise to film a more in-depth review of this product for my Youtube channel soon.

I hope you guys liked my review. If you have any questions about the product that I haven't discussed in this post, leave it in the comments section below and I'll do my best to answer right away!
