Why I Prefer Uber than Regular Taxis

Hey guys!

As you all know, I frequently use Uber when I go to places around Metro Manila. Ever since I tried Uber, I never turned back. I love how safe and secure you feel when you're commuting. I know, not all regular taxi drivers are mean or whatnot. But the chances of getting a ride with a nice, honest driver? Not that big. There are lots of news these days about taxi drivers and their modus operandi. Some will use a spray that will make you fall asleep and rape you and drop you off somewhere while unconscious. Some will drive you through a "shortcut" but it's actually a dark road where they have someone else waiting so they can mug you. Some will actually mug you by themselves. Also, worst case scenario, they'll kill you. There's a lot, really. If you go on Facebook a lot, you will see news about crazy taxi drivers.

So you pretty much know by now why I prefer Uber. When you book a ride on Uber, they will show you the estimated amount from where you are to the place you're going to, and they will also show the details of the driver who accepts your ride. You will see their photo, their name, their rating, what kind of car they're driving, the plate number, and their contact details. You can call or text them where you are exactly while they're on the way. You will see their rating, if it's low or high. If you get a driver with a pretty low rating, you can cancel the ride for free so long as you do it within 5 minutes or else you'll be charged. I suggest going for a driver with a rating of 4 stars and above.

Now, for security. Once you get a ride, you also have the option to send your trip status to your family and friends or basically whoever you want to send it to. You can send it through text, through Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Viber, etc. It will send them a link so they can see where you are real-time.

Too good to be true? Well, of course, Uber isn't perfect as well. You're not always gonna get a good driver. But the chances of getting a not so great driver is pretty low. For instance, I had a driver who drove like he was in a race. I also had a driver who asked to be paid cash instead of being charged on my card but still ended up charging me, which made my fare twice the amount needed. Also, if you're booking a ride on a rush hour, or when there are few rides in your area with many people trying to book a ride, there is this thing called "surge." Basically, booking a ride will be higher, depending on how high the surge price will be.

TL;DR-
Pros

  • Safer than regular taxis
  • You can send your trip status to anyone so they can see where you are real-time
  • You get a fare estimate
  • Details of the driver is in the app
  • Usually cheaper than regular taxis (they can't cheat by using a tampered meter)
  • Your first ride will be free!*
Cons
  • You might get a bad driver (pretty slim chance, just check their rating)
  • There will be a surge (higher price) if you book on a rush hour or when there are a few drivers with a lot of riders trying to book within an area

I'm sorry, but that... was kind of ridiculous.
